Marissa Alexander

— A Jacksonville woman has taken a plea deal for firing a gun at her estranged husband and his two sons in what she claims was self-defense.

The Florida Times-Union ( reports that Marissa Alexander, who is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the 2010 shooting, will receive credit for the 1,030 days she has already serve. She must serve 65 more days and will return to jail Monday. She will be released Jan. 27. The state waived the minimum mandatory 20-year prison sentence under the deal.

Alexander says she fired the gun as a warning because she feared her abusive husband, Rico Gray. Neither Gray nor his sons were injured in the shooting.

Alexander’s conviction in the first trial was thrown out by an appeals court.
